"Thank you," Tom said with gratitude in his voice. Although he wanted to get the berry from the oddish personally, he would probably collapse on his face if he tried to bow down with his newest Pokemon perched on his head. He ended up deciding to give Gene a sheepish look of desperation, hoping he know what it meant.
"On it." He said, see the predicament Tom was in. Understanding his silent command, he leapt over to the oddish, retrieving the gift from her for his trainer. "Thanks for the berry. I'll be real useful to us later," he said with a kindly firm voice.

The Oddish watched as Gene took the berry from her. Lifting her head back up, feeling like a weight had just been lifted off of her shoulders she looked right up at Tomas. <You're very welcome!> She replied with a polite and cheerful smile.

After releasing a deep breath, Tom straightened and recalled the fire mouse and seed Pokemon, forcing Gene to take the berry along with him. "I'm glad we could be of service to you. Take care, and try not to get berries from trees full of spinarak next time." With that, he started along the trail to Lilac City once more.
-Time lapse from day to sunset-
As the sun started to set, Tom quickly decided to keep moving till he reached Lilac. If he didn't have Ellen on his head, he would have arrived earlier, but she was a good traveling mate to have around since she knew the way there.
"So how much longer now?"
<About a few more miles...> the bug said in a light monotone voice. <At this rate, a few more hours of walking...>
"Good thing we ate and rested already..." he commented, a little irked at her way of putting her estimate. "Why haven't you gone in your pokeball yet?"
